Sixteen Things You Should Know About Rhinoplasty

Thinking About Getting a Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)?

  1. RhinoplastyBeautiful nose job, known as rhinoplasty (otherwise known as a nose job, or nose reshaping) is one of the most complex of all cosmetic surgeries— poor surgical technique can lead to permanent deformity. Choose your surgeon wisely.
  2. Surgeons trained and board certified by the American Academy of Otolarngology – Head and Neck Surgery are also trained extensively in plastic surgery techniques for the nose.
  3. Rhinoplasty results are rarely ever absolutely perfect, but an accomplished surgeon specializing in rhinoplasty will more often come closest. Without experience, artistic skill and technical expertise, a good cosmetic outcome is impossible.
  4. A nose that looks great on someone else, say a famous actor or actress, may look awkward on you. A skilled, artful surgeon will use a computer model to help you find the look you want with a realistic expectation of what is possible. However, an exact match difficult to achieve for anyone performing the surgery.
  5. A misshapen nose can be transformed dramatically, but thebasic architecture can only change so much. Be realistic.
  6. Good Rhinoplasty outcomes have at least one thing in common — a natural appearance. The most attractive nose is one that is in harmony with your other facial features – it should blend in.
  7. The outcome of your surgery depends not only on a good surgeon, but on good tissue and favorable healing responses. Your genetic make-up can effect even the most skillful surgery, especially when combined with weak cartilage and poor skin. Your surgeon should advise you on what you can do to optimize your healing capabilities, and whether or not you have the characteristics to achieve your ideal result.
  8. All other factors being equal, an individual with a smooth clear complexion, firm nasal cartilage, forgiving skin and good general health will have the best prognosis for a favorable rhinoplasty outcome.
  9. A strong, well proportioned nasal skeleton is the key to lasting beauty and function. Skeletal support should be preserved or enhanced by reshaping, repositioning, or reinforcing the tip cartilage as opposed removing it. Talk specifics about tip cartilage with your surgeon.
  10. If the nasal tip is your area of concern, there are several approaches that can be taken to restore symmetry and proper shaping to the nasal tip. During an initial consultation, your surgeon should be able to examine your nose and discuss the best technique with you.
  11. Again, if you are most concerned with the nasal tip, you should know that breaking the nose is not a required step. The upper third of the nose is bone while the rest is cartilage. If the only thing you need is to reduce the tip, your surgeon should be able to avoid breaking any bone.
  12. Surgical swelling may distort the nose for several months after surgery. So be patient and don’t be disappointed in the beginning. Your result will not be evident for a little while.
  13. Revision Rhinoplasty is considerably more complicated and far more costly. It is often less effective than a first-time, or primary rhinoplasty. So you want it to be right the first time.
  14. Revision surgery is sometimes appropriate to touch up a minor imperfection, and the risk may be justified for repairing a misshapen or poorly breathing nose.
  15. Revision surgery should be considered with caution. If you are looking for the perfect nose, you should know that perfection is difficult to achieve in rhinoplasty. So before you endanger an almost perfect nose with revision surgery, get several opinions and do your research. You could end up going through a lot of misery and spending a fortune just to get your old nose back.
  16. In some, a non-surgical Rhinoplasty may be an option using dermal fillers. It can be performed to:
  • Reduce the appearance of a bump
  • Improve symmetry
  • Augment a flat bridge of the nose
  • Reduce or eliminate depressions, dents, or grooves
  • Raise and define a flat bridge
  • Lift a drooping nasal tip
  • De-emphasize a large rounded tip
  • Correct a “scooped out” or “saddle-nose” profile

At DermOne, Dr. Blanks performs Rhinoplasty more predictably, more accurately, and more effectively than most. She has the right combination of surgical skill, artistic talent, and eye for what is realistic to achieve. She will advise you appropriately on whether you have favorable tissue, and how cosmetic Rhinoplasty can produce a naturally beautiful nose that will flatter the face and last a lifetime. If you are considering Septoplasty, Dr. Blanks can get you breathing well and produce a cosmetic result that you will be happy with.

Skin Cancer Repair at DermOne Facial Plastic Surgery

Many of us know someone who has had a cancerous lesion on their skin removed. Sometimes you can tell there is an unsightly scar or “hole” left behind. What a lot of people don’t realize is that the appearance of these scars or “holes” can be diminished with facial plastic surgery.

Why consider Skin Cancer Repair? Skin Cancer Repair in Wilmington NC-Nose

The news that you have skin cancer can be devastating, couple that with the news that your malignancy is on your face, and it becomes more overwhelming as you realize that your appearance is sure to change…and not necessarily for the better.

We can help to minimize the appearance of scars and “holes” left by having cancerous areas removed. The procedure(s) is tailored to your specific case and your consultation with me will include discussing what needs to be done in order to achieve your desired results.

What is the recovery time for Skin Cancer Repair?

As with any surgical procedure, the recovery time will depend upon several factors. Most people can resume normal activities shortly after surgery, but keep in mind this is directly related to how extensive the skin cancer repair is.

How do I get started with Skin Cancer Repair?

The first step is to call for a consultation. I will sit with you, discuss your particular case, and together we will determine the best course of action. We will go over anesthesia options and what grafts are necessary as well as how long the surgery itself should last.

Our goal is to make the diagnosis of skin cancer one that you can live with in that your appearance does not necessarily have to alert the world to your diagnosis.

[hr]Call DermOne today to schedule your appointment. Let us make your Skin Cancer Repair happen! 910.762.1070

When is it time to consider a brow lift?

If you're starting to look like him, it may be time to consider a brow lift! This little guy’s brow wrinkles give him an endearing and adorable look. You likely saw him and thought, “Aw, he’s so cute!”

The same is not so true of brow wrinkles and many people as they age. The “wear-and-tear” of being expressive in our youth combined with environmental factors, further compounded by gravity and normal aging processing can give us significant brow wrinkles.

Does age matter when contemplating a brow lift?

We recognize that everyone is different. But, normally we will try alternative “fixes” on younger patients. The usual age for a facial plastic surgery brow lift is between forty and sixty-five years of age. Again, and I can’t stress this enough, we consult with each and everyone of our patients, and the treatment path we go down together is based on YOUR face and YOUR needs.

What does a brow lift entail?

As alluded to above, this is a facial plastic surgery procedure. A brow lift involves making five tiny incisions behind the hairline. An endoscopic, or minimal-incision brow lift, utilizes a slender endoscope, minimizing the size of the incision as well as the resulting scar. For patients with high hairlines, an incision can be made just at the hairline, maintaining the hairline position while providing all the cosmetic benefits of the brow lift. This is known as a tricophytic brow lift.

What is the recovery like after a brow lift?

Recovery from this facial surgical procedure consists of some activity restrictions immediately following, however, most people can resume normal activities within seven days. There is a chance that you will experience some facial bruising in the ten days following the procedure. At about one week, we will see you for a postoperative appointment, at which time sutures and/or staples will be removed. As your incision heals you may experience some itching or numbness, neither of which will be permanent.

[hr]I look forward to consulting with you concerning your desire for a more youthful face. Together we’ll determine if a brow lift is right for you! Call today to set up your consultation! 910-762-1070

A More Youthful Looking Face/Neck Without a Facelift?

A More Youthful Looking Face and Neck Without a Facelift?

As we age, certain changes take place that affect our facial appearance. For many of us, these changes make a difference that is noticeable, but not quite worthy of a surgical facelift. At DermOne, we understand the desire to look your best and we offer Ultherapy to non-surgically help you attain the results you are seeking.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is the use of ultrasound in conjunction with your body’s own, natural, healing

process that lifts, tones, and tightens loose skin. It is FDA approved and can be a viable option for someone who wants to lift their eyebrows, get rid of their “double-chin” or reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. With Ultherapy, there’s no downtime, no foreign substances, no radical change; just a healthy revving-up on the inside for a natural, noticeable effect on the outside. This is in stark contrast to a surgical facelift, although there certainly are times when a facelift is the correct.

Is Ultherapy in Wilmington, NC for You?

The best way to determine if Ultherapy is the right course of treatment for you is to set up an appointment to discuss what you want from treatment. Together we can determine if Ultherapy is the right course of action, or if you would be better served by a surgical brow lift, or a surgical facelift. There are many determining factors, so call today to set up your appointment!

[hr] Call DermOne today and set up your appointment to discuss how to look more youthful! 1(910) 762-1070
